Not many people know that the shining yellow gold metal has been used in medicine since the turn of the century.
However, studies carried out by researchers from Birmingham City Hospital point towards a remedy using gold rings for the destructive erosion of joints caused by arthritis.
The study was performed over two years on 55 people with arthritis, 30 who wore gold rings and 25 non-ring wearers.
The results from the study highlighted that the people who wore gold rings all or most of the time had knuckle joints that were up to 3 times less eroded by the disease than the non-ring wearers.
This study suggests that gold material from gold rings can pass through the skin up to the knuckle and delay erosion.
Wearing a gold ring or gold bracelet as a celebration of love or a glamorous fashion accessory may just be helping your health as well.
