Diamond encrusted and worth over half a million pounds, Cartier’s most exclusive ring was stolen earlier today. The theives, bilingual and smartly dressed, walked into Cartier’s store in Rome and talked their way past staff claiming to be shopping for a special gift.

Leading the investigation, Police official Paolo Guiso, said the two men, belived to be North African, worked quickly and deftly, without weapons or force.

Whilst CCTV footage is being examined, press reports suggest that the ring contained a 5ct centrepiece diamond and was encrusted with smaller diamonds.

A gang of motorcycle robbers smashed their way into a jewellery store containing valuable rings yesterday but were thwarted when courageous passers-by tackled them.

Five raiders carrying sledgehammers tried to break into Ernest Jones on Kensington High Street, West London around 10.40am.

But brave members of the public intervened and managed to corner one of the riders and hold him until police arrived.

“The bikes mounted the pavement and the guys with the sledgehammers jumped off and started trying to smash the windows of Ernest Jones,” said witness IT worker Ryan Shipley, according to the Daily Mirror.

Shipley said passers-by then started directing traffic to try to block the bikes. “It was surreal, very odd. It was really good how everyone chipped in,” he said.
